Nice rebuild Hotspot , They are a nice stable , sensitive machine .Mine works really well on a mineralized field . No disc. of course but I discovered a kind of ground balance technique . If you're getting ground noise , put the coil on the ground and tune out the noise until a rapid motorboating is heard . As you pull back from the surface the detector settles quite well to a slow click . I'm sure there is a depth penalty but this happens with all types of device .I'm really liking the way this project works .

Ok so I think I might be somewhat deaf ...well not really . I can hear the 10 hz as a noise the 20 hz as oscillation ,right up to 10,000 hz and at 11,000 I'm deaf Ha !.....very interesting thanks Gary.

Thanks Gary , that's what I wanted to hear . So shielding it is then . Yes you have spoken with me a couple of times recently ( Dave .H . from N.S.W. ) regarding a kit . All good and is running like a clock ! My high tech phone wont send picture msg's nor will wifi or blue tooth work .'No driver exists' says the computer .So I'm going to resort to my computers web cam by holding things in front of it and taking a photo ..sigh .Hopefully I will be able to post them ......Cheers Dave.

Hi all , hi Gary ,.....comment on your pulse 1 , I'm very impressed with this build Gary. This machine is ultra stable and I really like the non motion side of the device . You have mentioned a few times that shielding isn't necessary on the coils ( I live on an Australian goldfield ) , however if I was to install shielding will this have any detrimental effect on the performance of the detector. I will be using graphene /graphite ....50 - 80 % single to 3 layer atomic carbon . This has a higher conductivity than normal graphite but I'm sure it is low enough so as not to allow eddy currents to perpetuate. And its not as messy or non adhesive , just paint it on (2 coats at 90 degrees to each other and a buff when dry ) even insulation tape will stick to this stuff. On a lighter side if I added enough graphene ( I make my own through electrochemical exfoliation of graphite sheet ) and compressed it with another compound I would have a coil cover you could not pierce with an AK47 .....actually true! Anyway I digress , I'm sure I will find out the hard way but that would mean pulling the coil apart again , they are never the same when disturbed . Cheers Dave.

thanks guys, the pics of this kit are not the best but the only thing that stands out is the pin which could be shorting with the adjacent pin (it seems melted into its base quite near the next pin ) .manufacturing fault ? I will change out the assembly and see what happens . another thing is that the program may not have been loaded. I'm not too bothered by this not working it was just for fun anyway, these kits are not guaranteed to work when powered on. i did however check the values of all the components except ic's before assembly.so it's probably something I have done wrong.!

thanks guys , yeah I was just wondering if any one had any idea what this could be .cheap is right ....would have been cool if it had worked.so into the too hardsky basket for now .just got Gary's detector kit and coil ( craftsmanship is excellent on the coil ) but I'm waiting on a new iron before I start building it .anyway not sure about diagnosing this one so ill think on it for a year or so .thanks guys.....Dave
