Yes Gary , they are the black long boards . I will attempt to get a clear picture of both sides .Cheers Dave.

Hi Gary , I swapped out the ne5534 for the one in the working circuit . Voltage adjustment problem solved but it still doesn't work hahaha . I will have another look later on . Thanks for your time mate , if I had any hair left I would have pulled it out by now. Cheers , Dave .

Thanks for the reply Gary , hope you are well . voltage is .11V not 1.1 as I previously stated and there is no change in voltage when adjusted but the centre pin voltage is around 4V . The pot when measured across itself displays adjustable resistance but not through the circuit . Have you any idea which parts may have a bearing on the problem. I'm fairly sure it isn't an ic issue , I could be wrong so I will check the ne5534 again this morning. Cheers , Dave .

Hello all . I'm hoping someone can shed some light on my problem . Ok , here we go .... I have built several surf pi 1.2 kits without a problem in the past . I then decided it would be interesting to source my own parts to build 3 more with boards supplied by silverdog as per usual . So every part has been checked , every ic and pot . After building the first , it was not operating . Upon checking , I noticed that some caps were box type but actually ceramic , so were replaced with poly film caps . This made no difference . I even moved all the ic's to a board that was functioning and it still continued to work. What I have noticed is the voltage offset pot ( again checked and working ) will not affect the voltage when adjusted ( it remains fixed at 1.1V with an input voltage of around 12V but it does vary on it's own when I input different voltages ie 9V to 13V . Nothing is getting hot and the circuit has live voltages at test points and most components. I have used other , presumably better quality parts on the other two boards with the same result ........nothing . The same voltage adjustment issue is present on these , so I have made the same mistake 3 TIMES ! . If anyone has any idea what parts would be affecting this function I will be absolutely delighted . Thanks and cheers , Dave .

Here's hoping that when I attempt it , it works at all . Thanks again Gary.

Hello all , just a question I think I may have asked somewhere before but have never had an adequate answer . Is there a way to wire in a dual coil say a DD into a surf PI 1.2 board . This may or may not be a silly question , I don't know . Any input will be welcomed , thanks and cheers ,Dave.

Thanks Gary , I will try .2mm wire. Any advice on the type of litz wire I should use as there are many types and gauges . Also, could you tell me what TPMS22 wire is as I cant find any references to it other than a mention on a video of minelab's use of it pre-dating the use of litz wire in their coils . Cheers , Dave .

Hi everyone , I couldn't find a relevant thread so Ive started this one . My question is probably for the more knowledgeable of you who understand theory well . Having built a couple of DD coils to a specific design I have noticed an anomaly . Originally the coil halves are wound with a straight back side ( just like the letter D ) . No matter what I tried the coils were EXTREMELY difficult to set up and gave inconsistent performance , as in very poor range and no detection of gold ( 1 gram 21 ct ear ring ). So becoming frustrated , I bent the backs of the coils in a curve ( as many DD coils are ) . Presto .... really good detection on small gold ( TGSL build ) , coins etc. Discrimination is very good on iron and aluminium . The machine is much easier to adjust and is more stable also. Now for the question .... could anyone provide an explanation of what is taking place ( even a theory will help ) as I have had to do this with both coils . The straight back design will not work for me . These coils are constructed well and shielded , but would not work without the curve in the back of the D. Looking forward to any answers to this question , cheers , Dave .

Yes Gary , its a bit sad . I was really looking forward to hearing it play . Supposedly these amps gave legendary performance . Oh well , I'll see how the 50 watt build goes and keep you informed . Cheers , Dave .

Hey guys , .....so this amplifier is a dual 50 watt kit with twin pre-amps . After careful inspection I have decided to shelve the rebuild ( maybe I will remove all the parts and re-make the pcb , then rebuild with new or newish parts ).There are a lot of parts that will need replacing so I think I will build the 50 watt kit and be satisfied with that . Wish I was younger LOL. ...Cheers , Dave.

Yeah , I had avg security running 50% of cpu and a heap of memory , windows 10 stopping and starting things and generally doing things without permission ....to "improve your windows experience " . Oh...now I have experience alright ( extreme sarcasm intended )......much laughter ....
