Yes, it is a long download. It took me 2 tries. However, I have a high speed connection at home. I will try to burn a copy on disk and send it to you. It will give you another option to solving the problem. Don't give up. rmeyn

Probably a linux flavor like Ubuntu which I use. Free, works great and free support if ya get on a IRC. Once ya get over the learning curve, you won't go back. Plus it will work on older pc's. Problem is majority of slopware is written for MS Windoze systems, but there are tons of very good free Linux software and it has become so much easier to use and install/de-install now.

Yes, he sent me that Ubuntu system. Yesterday I tried to Install it Without Installing win98, But it wouldn't work at all. Next I Installed win98 than tried to install the Ubuntu, to Run Outside of windows. Also Wouldn't work. So today I will try to install it INSIDE Windows. Furthermore, after many tests and Xrays, I Never did find out Why my arm was hurting, and now it seems to be getting better on its own. However in the results yesterday, one of the Xrays shows a "Spot on my right Lung". So now I have to go for a CT Scan.

Your taking the right approach! No time to mess around. Get the necessary scans--may only be calcification. Good luck. rmeyn

hmm i have this version, but i've tried only live cd. Anyway it should work "out of the box" in most cases... what is the exact problem with your installation process? Also, what are your PC specs ? And also, did you perfrom total re-partitioning and formating in native FS during install, or not?

I Love DOS. The Ubuntu CD I got Has a definate Error. Installing it Inside windows, "It Goes so far, than says it can't find a Particular file. Installing it to run Outside Windows, It installs to a point, than just Hangs. (Sorry, I Can't remember Exact file name that it said)

What file? maybe just one of the packages? So you will be able to unselect this package and go on. No, It Just HANGS. I have also tried Starting over MANY TIME. I Also Checked the Content of the Disk in Dos. (Dir/s) It does NOT Match what the website claims for Number of Mb. One guy in Town here, Say he will see about downloading it for me and put it on a CD.

What file? maybe just one of the packages? So you will be able to unselect this package and go on. Lamazoid and others: One person in my town, Downloaded that program for me and made me a GOOD WORKING CD. Unfortunately now I find out my present computer doesn't have enough memory to run it. (Only 64 Mb Ram.) However, I have another computer here with enough memory and trying it to run "just from the CD" It does run.(But I now know for sure, that previous CD had a problem.) So When I get some time, I will do a Full Install and see if it fulfills my needs. However, TODAY I have to go for a CT Scan, as One of the Xrays they took when trying to solve my arm problem Showed a Spot on my Right Lung. So Now I have to find out if this is Cancer. If it Isn't one Problem, IT ANOTHER!

Don't worry, linux has many shells (windows has only one = explorer) for any computer from 486pc to modern with 3d desktops enabled. And also it has a SWAP partition (instead of windows swap file) which helps to work on low specs machines. It does not use swap when running from CD directly, so memory requirements are little higher. I believe it should work fine after full install.
PS Hope it'll be ok with your health.

He's probably snailmailing you a flavor of Linux, most likely Ubuntu which is a great operating system... Oops, didn't read all the posts. I've run Ubuntu for several years and have had great luck with it. I'm currently dual booting Ubuntu and Windows 7 and believe it or not, W7 is faster and more stable...

Gary, You should be able to install run and use win 98 as you have been doing. You must make sure you completely wipe and reformat the new hard disk. You must make sure you have ample space on the hard drive and as much RAM as you can get. The most Important thing though is to realise that if you hook up to, or download anything from microsoft they will slip a virus into your computer to disable it it some way as it is quite easy for them to tell if your OS is pirate. I have been using pirate XP for years and am extremely careful about this. Therefore I have no problems. Ubuntu is ok if you want to relearn the computer but I will stick with windows as it is a rort but still the easiest to use. Good Luck. PS. What is the computer situation now?
