Hi, For a part of my final year project at university i am building the proximity detector from this site.
I have a question, I have a huge lack of electronics knowledge so excuse my ignorance!!
Q. On the schematic there seems to be 7 capacitors however on the picture there are 8 and it seems to be coming out of terminal 7 on the op-amp what is this and what size capacitor is this?
thanks ross

Its a 1uF Tantalum cap. It a Supply Bypass capacitor.
It May be Left out of the cxoiircuit, or replaced with a 0.1uF Disk Cap.
Quite Often Bypass caps don't always appear on the schematic.
