Ok heres an issue Ive been trying to solve. I need water sensors(many) that will send a 5v signal to the monitoring board. Float switches are not an option. There must be some simple compact way to detect water at its lowest level, such as at the very bottom of a box. Several could be used to detect a quarter,,half,,three quarters full...etc. Some kind of circuit with 2 bare wires close together enough to turn on a transistor or diode when water is between them...and then far enough apart to clear when water is pumped out.? Any ideas? Z

i think simple MOSFET switch will do

Yes, one Mosfet and wire for each level connected to the gate. Also a 10k resistor between gate and source to turn it off when no signal.
And a Common HOT wire in the bottom.

HOT wire doesnt have to be in close proximity to each sens wire?? 10k quarter watt. And of course only the wires themselves will see water. All the rest of the circuit could be...say...4 or 5 feet away?

This sensor could be exposed(hopefully not) to both fresh and salt water...if that makes a difference. Where can I find a drawing of this circuit so I can build and test?

SALT water, Use Stainless Steel probes.

I just read a post showing water/ moisture detectors using copper wires separated by plaster (as an insulator) molded into a tube shape. If your interested I will look for the link where I seen it. I am looking for a simple moisture detector as well.

Better to use Stainless Steel Rods. Copper corrodes quickly.
I had a one Transistor circuit, driving an led or buzzer as a water detector, but can't find it now. I'll see about re-creating it in a day or so.

I thought I would post something more specific to my needs hoping for help. I have a spot under my cabinets in the kitchen. If I have a leak under the house this is the first place it shows. I would like a sensor I could bury in pea gravel and have the circuit, beeper and battery mounted inside the cabinet. just the simplest of circuit that is very low drain on battery until it goes off is what im hoping for. The LED could be Replaced with a Small Piezo Buzzer, so to give an Audio Warning Sound. You Don't say Which Country? you live in, But as an Alternative to Stainless Steel Probes, Two US Nickel or Canadian Coins could be used. Just Place them about One inch part in the peas gravel. They are Unlikely to Oxide like Copper does. Take care.....Gary

Thank you Gary this is the circuit I am building, I had printed out the schematic and wasn't sure where it had came from. I did replace the led with a piezo buzzer. I am trying to keep this as simple as possible and this is the best one anyone has came up with. Thank you for your time sir. John
