Hi Gary,
For each post, there might be a hundred just lurking. Over time, posts _will_ increase if the forum provides help/answers.
And on that note, I seem to recall (from the happy days at Tonys board) that you are the one to ask about HV air cleaners?
Regards, Søren

Hi Søren, Yes What do you want to know about Electrostatic Air Filters?

Hi Gary, I primarily need to get rid of tobacco smell, but the overall improvement of the indoor air (removing other "stuff"), which I read that electrostatic filters are capable of, is nice to have too, the primary focus is on removing cigarette smoke/smell. I have a vague recollection of you stating, that the plates needed to be so-and-so-large, with this-or-that number of plates at a certain min/max voltage to be useful at all, but I don't remember the details and wanting to build one myself, it would be good with some info, rather than having to start from square one. The immediate questions coming to mind are: - What is the needed size and number of the plates for efficient cleaning? - What are the min/max voltages (to avoid too high doses of ozone, while still working)? - Roughly how efficient are they in removing tobacco smell (if you have any perception of that)? - What kind and merv# of pre-filter is used (if any)? - How often do they need to be wiped/washed for best performance (assuming a medium amount of smoking)? - Will aluminum be appropriate for the plates? The room size in question is approx. 15 cubic meters (~1412 cubic feet according to Google) Obviously, the best solution would be to quit smoking, but I am settling for some air-cleaning

I Also Smoke. 1) I recommend you read my article chemelec.com/Projects/Electrostatic/Electrostatic.htm2) clean it when it gets Dirty. Can't say How Often as it depends on How much Smoke actually goes through it. 3) Much Easier to discuss this by Telephone. I have free calling to many places. [url}http://chemelec.com/Phone.htm[/url]
