Definitely agree - Yeah, Microsoft's policy IS a bunch of CRAP.
And ditto on MS persistence on forcing Windows 10 on Windows 7 users. If you didn't refuse in time, the download/install began automatically. I also consistently refused, but must have screwed up because I awoke one day and found Windows 10 had been installed on my system and on my laptop. My main gripe with it is slowing of my system and infrequent freezing of frames. Some of my software settings were effected, too.
I need to try Linux, just need the time to do it....

Yeah , I had avg security running 50% of cpu and a heap of memory , windows 10 stopping and starting things and generally doing things without permission ....to "improve your windows experience " . Oh...now I have experience alright ( extreme sarcasm intended )......much laughter ....

Hey guys , .....so this amplifier is a dual 50 watt kit with twin pre-amps . After careful inspection I have decided to shelve the rebuild ( maybe I will remove all the parts and re-make the pcb , then rebuild with new or newish parts ).There are a lot of parts that will need replacing so I think I will build the 50 watt kit and be satisfied with that . Wish I was younger LOL. ...Cheers , Dave.

Considering How Old that is, The Caps are probably not very good. Most of the other parts, Probably Not very useful either.

Yes Gary , its a bit sad . I was really looking forward to hearing it play . Supposedly these amps gave legendary performance . Oh well , I'll see how the 50 watt build goes and keep you informed . Cheers , Dave .

Dave, IMHO, you most probably made a good decision from looking at the photos you posted. Like Gary noted, all of the components are suspect especially if they've been out in the weather. Philosophically speaking, a lot of precious time can be put into a project with disappointing results. It's often a good idea to move on to those projects that one is going to have a better chance of enjoying, like your 50 watt amp. Cheers!

Hi. This was a D—k Smith kit from the Electronics Australia magazine series. The amp ran stereo MOSFETs for 50watts. They had excellent performance. If you search the EA magazines, the full build and circuit description can be found in Dec 80, Jan 81, Feb 81 magazines i think. I have them at home and on pdf if needed. The mosfets are Hitachi 2SJ48 and 2SK133. The unit had a number of inputs including a dedicated phono input. Once again, they are really nice amps and worth a rebuild. Other than the output mosfets, everything I can be purchased from a Jaycar or Altronics store. The mosfets are easily found online. If you are not keen on rebuilding it, i would be.

Hi Mike.
This was a old post that you revised. I still remember being interested in it. Never did hear if it got rebuilt or not. It is still an interesting project today. Thank you for the info.
