And My Vegetable Garden is MOST Important right now. And My Vegetable Garden is MOST Important right now. This Lumber is 4" x 10" x 16 foot lengths of Douglas Fir and quite Heavy for just one person. But it was Free. I Double Stacked these with one piece mostly Buried and another on top. So 20 inches of good Soil depth. I built this 12 Years ago and it has rotted out, so I am rebuilding it.

Here is a Older Picture of my Garden In the summer of 2009. I have tried various watering systems, but I find it best to just water it by hand with a garden hose. My Town is in the Mountains and the Soil here is VERY ROCKY. Very Difficult to get Good Soil. Elevation here is 528 Meters. Also Frost Free Planting here is Considered as May 24th. Originally I bought some Poor Quality Soil and Added lots of Pine Wood Saw Dust and other Compost material to it. After a few years, it became Quite Good Soil. In the Fall, I cut the tops off of my Carrots, Beets and Parsnips than I put in some Home Made Electric Heaters and Insulation. These heaters are VERY LOW POWER and on temperature controlled timers, Just to keep the ground from Freezing. I can keep my garden Alive and able to dig it All Winter, Even at Minus 20 degrees Celsius. So I can Usually get these 3 vegetables for about 9 to 10 Months of the year.

Soaker Hoses work good, but Quite Expensive to buy for a fairly large garden like this. And they only last so long.
The Two Long, Back Center Rows in the previous Picture are Carrots. Each of these two frames has 4 Rows of carrots (So equal to a single row of 48 Feet of carrots per frame.)
Assuming Both rows do good, I use one of these frames for myself and Give away the other frame of carrots to a few Older, needy People. I Also supply Free carrots for a Community Dinner in this town. (This dinner is about 100 people, one time each year.) (Last year I also supplied most of the Beets for this dinner.)
You can spend a Lot of Money on gardening.
I prefer to have it at a reasonable cost and basically Natural. I rarely add any Chemical and I don't use any insect Sprays. I do Compost coffee Grounds and all vegetable waste. Sometimes also leaves in the fall.

wow, pretty hard climate, almost like Siberia i live in south region of Russia, here we usually open swimming season on May 10-15th, and frost free weather comes at the beginning of April. but soils are bad, mostly prairie terrain and dry, dusty air. so i also plan to make some greenhouse with artificial soils and (ideally) all-year gardening. at the present time i only begin to study gardening, all of my achievements at this point are cucumbers grown in metal barrels you have very interesting approach with electrical warming, i've never heard about it before. here people usually use woodstoves like "bullerjan" (the stove invented in Canada, you should know about it) or distributed liquid heating systems, powered from single big gas heater.

Hi Lamazoid, I have a Small Greenhouse that I usually use for starting plants in the early spring. It is 2 x 2 Meters Square with a 2.4 meter roof, Sloped roof to one side. One side is the back of my Car Garage, but the other 3 sides and roof are Tempered Plate Glass.
Problem is the Light inside is too concentrated, So plants grow high, but not bushy as many should be. OK for starting plants in potting soil, but not for full growth.
Our Summer Temperatures here are up to 40 Celsius. Today its 29, Considerably too hot for working on the Garden frames, But I am. Winter Temperatures have got down to -25 a few time in the past. But Normally only go down to about -15.
Last winter we got two Large Snow Falls. About 60 CM each time. One of these was HEAVEY WET Snow.
Normally we only get about 10 to 15 CM on the ground and Mostly Dry Snow, so just sweep it with a Broom.
Take care.......Gary

Frames now Finished, Just need to Clean up and Plant more stuff. A Friend of mine will be taking all the Old Wood for Firewood. The lumber I have came from the Bridge in the Top Left of the Picture. They Replaced the Deck on it Last Fall and I got about 1/4 of the bridge deck. (The Last time they replaced it was in 2012 and I also got 1/4 of the deck.) Also Notice the BEAUTIFUL WILD ROSES! They Bloom the same time Every year and only last about One Week, than Die Quickly.

My Garden Today: Carrots, Beets, Parsnips, Zucchini, Onions, Tomatoes, Spinach, Rhubarb, Pumpkins. Marmots attacked my beets and damaged about half of them, also ate almost all the Spinach. The Small Red topped posts you see in the foreground wood frame is a 15 KV Electric Fence I put up to Stop them from doing further damage. Some are coming back and I replanted some more of the beets. But Too HOT out now to replant the Spinach.

I forgot to say I also have Green Beans in the garden. In addition I have an Apple tree, Plum tree and Cherry tree as well as a Seedless Green Grape Bush. Apple and Plum trees not doing good this year, but I got reasonable amount of cherries. And last year I got over 40 Pound of Grapes from the bush and it looks like I get lots again this year again. We are Quite HOT Here (last 2 weeks, 30 to 41 Celsius) with very little rain last year and this year. Lots of Lightning and Forest Fires in this province now. (82 New Fires in the last 7 Days.) Also an unusual Mild Winter with low snow pack.
